Scrapbook page

Just wanted to share a scrapbook page that is for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary.  I'm trying to do pages by the year of their marriage, so 1962 was their 11th year of marriage.  I love the clothes in these pics!  The girls are my mom, aunt, and cousin.  The digital elements are a quick page from Shabby Princess's Clementine collection.

I am determined to finish  a scrapbook for my girls before Kyle arrives.  I know I should start in chronological order and make a baby book but my ADD brain does not compute that type of thinking.  So, I'm going to start with what's recent and easiest...Disney!

The Lollipop Tree

It has been a long time since I've been on my blog.  We've had a lot happen in May: Patrick & Eliza's wonderful wedding, a Disney trip, and a beach trip.  I'm going to take baby steps and get to the smaller events first, and next time give you a bunch of pics from our long trips.  Baby Steps for me or else I would just never make another post :)

Last night the girls had their first dance recital.  It was a ballet number to The Lollipop Tree by Burl Ives.  The theme of the night was Sweet Dreams and all of the numbers centered around sweet desserts with classic songs sung by Bing Crosby, Shirley Temple, etc....It was so sweet and so fitting for this age.  It was just hard for me with my sweet tooth out of control during pregnancy.  By the end, I wanted to do a google search and find the nearest carnival where I could get cotton candy, lollipops, chocolate, caramel apples, etc...

And here she is again. So proud of her lollipop.




Natalie improvised a little and added a wave when she walked on stage.  Pretty fitting.  She loved the stage, and during the recital she improvised a little more and took a bow when the crowd started clapping at the end.  I can't wait to get the video. 





At the end, the performers put on a parade where each class gets to walk through the banner and then wave to the audience.  Once again, my girls were very enthusiastic about waving.

The Solar System and the questions

We have been really encouraging the girls to learn about the solar system.  Actually, "We" really means David.  He's the science guy; I just go along with it and nod and agree so the girls actually think Mommy is right up there with Daddy in the knowledge department.  Anyways, we started off with making paper mache Earths.  Three strips into it, Natalie hates the glue on her hands.   Claire lasts 2/3 of the way.  I remember paper mache being way more fun when I was a kid.

Moving on...David got this really cool app for his ipad that is like Google Earth but for the solar system.  The girls have been loving it.   So naturally, all of this talk about space, rockets, and planets have planted little seeds of curiosity.

Here are the latest questions that made me smile...

After getting a mosquito bite, Natalie asks, "Awww Mommy,  Why can't mosquitoes live in outer space?  Can we make them blastoff to space and leave us alone?  I want them in outer space not Earth, where they eat me."  Natalie, I couldn't agree with you more.  I love your insight and creative solution.

Claire asked me out of the blue, "Mommy, why are we on Earth and not another planet?"  I told her, "because God searched all of the planets and found one that was perfect for us.   It was not too hot and not too cold; it was perfect."  Later I hear her touching her water in her cup and say, "Ooh, it's not too hot, and not too cold.  This water is perfect."   That Claire.  She is always sponging up what adults say and loves to use the new phrases/terms, and she almost always uses them in the right context.
